The Place

Located just outside Exeter looking towards Dartmoor National Park, we are a very manageable 2.25 hour train journey from London Paddington. The M5/A38 passes within 10 minutes of our gates.

We are a venue with a difference.

Embercombe is a beautiful fifty acre small-holding on the edge of Haldon forest just seven miles from Exeter and one mile from the Dartmoor National Park. It is comprised of twenty acres of mature broadleaf woodland, a wildlife lake, south-facing meadows, a stone circle, and an organic orchard and garden. The farm is currently being developed.

Two yurt villages are located on the land accommodating either 21 or 28 persons. Each yurt has a wood burning stove and both villages have compost toilets. The West Village has a specially designed yurt for wheelchair access.

Of the two large hangars one has been sympathetically converted to provide:
• A large workshop / conference hall - approx 12m x 15m (oak floor)
• 2 small meeting rooms, one with a large usable open foyer space
• 1 large meeting room to hold between 15 – 20 persons
• 4 toilets (1 with wheelchair access) and 3 showers

The second hangar contains:
• A 30’ dining room yurt that can also be used as a meeting room or simply to chill out
• Large, fitted out kitchen with 6 burner commercial oven

When you come to Embercombe you can have the experience of cooking for yourselves in a group or bring your own caterers. At certain seasons of the year you will be able to use produce from our own organic gardens.

If it fits in with your programme we will encourage you to join in some of the physical activities that keep us all warm and well fed – working on land and in the kitchen. We will invite you to experience the land of Embercombe after dark around our campfires when stories are shared.

When you come to Embercombe we hope to enrich your insights into the relationship of the land and its occupants. We may challenge your views, but we are sure you will be wealthier than when you arrived.
