Internship: Personal Assistant to Mac Macartney
One-year internship supporting Tim ‘Mac’ Macartney as his personal assistant.
Embercombe is a vibrant and influential social enterprise located in Devon, UK.
Tim ‘Mac’ Macartney is the founder of Embercombe and, leads our work with business organisations. He has a strong reputation as a speaker, writer, and consultant on the themes of sustainability, values-led leadership, and spiritually informed activism. In order to build on our success Mac needs professional assistance that we do not have the funds to pay for. However, we can offer a great deal in terms of the experience of working in close association with a social entrepreneur who, along with his colleagues, has turned an inspiring vision into a reality. The Role:
- Manage and monitor Mac’s incoming emails, enquiries, requests, and appointments, handling them as appropriate, and often responding on his behalf
- Liaise with Embercombe’s business clients and prospects, managing relationships, administrating programmes, and co-ordinating between Embercombe departments
- Develop and maintain a system for monitoring the corporate budget, and liaising with Clare Mann re invoicing
- Provide ICT support for Mac re presentations, video-conferencing, Facebook, Linked-In, Slide Share, Twitter etc
- Attend Core Team meetings, contributing and keeping informed
In addition to these administrationsupport tasks this new role would also include these two significant responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage a plan to build Mac’s profile as an international conference speaker with large organisations, commanding fees commensurate with industry standards (research, negotiation of fees, booking, organisation etc)
- Project manage specific tasks such as co-ordinating the new Embercombe business plan

As a member of the Embercombe Wider Team the person taking this role would be entitled to:
- free accommodation at Embercombe forest lodge apartment (located a half-mile from our main gate)

- passionate and excited at the prospect of contributing to Embercombe’s mission
- possess a good blend of attention to detail with creativity and excellent interpersonal skills
- able to comfortably maintain themselves financially for the one year duration
- a fluent English speaker, with competence in a second language desirable
- resourceful, self-starting, entrepreneurial, energetic, determined
- Apple Mac & PC experienced
- Very good organisation, administration, and writing skills
- Very good sales and negotiation skills
The Future – beyond the internship
This internship does have the potential to lead to a permanent paid position at Embercombe if the financial results are sufficiently strong.
