For Secondary Schools OLD

Embercombe’s 50 acres of wildlife habitats including organic gardens, deciduous woodlands, wildflower meadow, lake and farmland is the ultimate “Outdoor Classroom”. Sometimes wild and woolly, sometimes warm and breezy this amazing natural environment provides the opportunity for teenagers to get to know their own talents and strengths, to learn new skills and to carry out some very practical work.

National Curriculum requirements

We have created special programmes for secondary schools that fit with the National Curriculum requirements and cover some of the curriculum subjects such as Science and the Arts. As well as facing some unusual challenges the children can experience the joy of being part of a group and able to use their individual strengths to benefit themselves, their group and the environment.

Enrichment and Activities Week

These programmes are perfect for Enrichment or Activities weeks or as an experiential element to a part of the curriculum. Our education team have years of experience and are fully qualified in their areas.

We can tailor the activities if required to suit the needs of you and your class but have specific courses we offer for Secondary Schools.

Pease call us on 01647 252983 to discuss your requirements.

"The Embercombe staff are excellent with the children, giving them the confidence to join in with all aspects of life at Embercombe, from chopping wood to preparing meals, encouraging them to work together on the challenges set for them" Teachers from Kentisbeare Primary, 2012 School

Wildcraft

A five day residential, perfect for enrichment week. A really wild experience encouraging children to develop a relationship with the natural environment. The activities are specially designed to challenge teenagers to be their own leader and to recognise their own innate strengths gifts and talents. Foraging for food, hunting and stalking food, cooking outdoors, building woodland shelters to sleep in.

Experiential Science – Residential

This five day hands on programme is filled with real life science experiments which makes science fun and provides learning that won’t be easily forgotten. Exploring the lime and other mineral cycles, learning about nutrition, the physics of pulleys and levers, exploring wildlife habitats, ecological surveys and much more…

Practical Skills & Work Experience

During this 5 – 10 day residential the children learn a mixture of practical and useful skills from forest management, coppicing, green woodworking, building, tool making,  and fence building to cooking using freshly harvested food, making their own songs and music, creating a film documentary and finally giving a unique and creative presentation.

Schools Outreach

We can come to your school and help you develop your outdoor learning environment and advise on developing your school grounds as an educational resource. Create a permanent edible garden in your grounds; build a pizza oven for the school; teach crafts – felting, basketry, or woodworking; build a sculpture with the children in your school grounds
